GUJRANWALA, May 24: The ruling PML workers, besides some women councillors and naib nazims of union councils, held a protest demonstration here on Tuesday against the party leadership for ignoring them in party matters and opposed the division of the city into four towns.

The protesting workers, carrying banners and placards inscribed with their demands and slogans, gathered at the circuit house, where a party meeting was being held under Punjab Irrigation Minister Amir Sultan Cheema.

They accused parliamentary secretary Ms Zille Huma Usman of conspiring to hijacking the party and ignoring the old workers.

The naib nazims demanded the decision to divide of the city into four towns for coming local bodies election be revoked.

Punjab Transport Minister Rana Shamshad Ahmad, senator Chaudhry Muhammad Anwer Bhinder, MNA Bilal Ijaz, MPAs Engineer Ashraf Butt, Ms Zille Huma Usman, Ms Shagufta Anwer, City Nazim Babu Javed Ahmad and other party leaders in the district were also present at the meeting.

However, on assurances given by district nazim and other leaders, the protesters dispersed peacefully.
