Army reign supreme

LAHORE, May 22: Army reigned supreme winning five events out of eight, including a women’s on the opening day of the Anti-narcotics National machine rowing championship on Saturday. Army’s Maqbool Ali and Irfan Ali won 500 metres race and 2000m, respectively and Nazia Butt notched up a win in 500m women’s race.

Army also claimed two team events to complete the tally. Wapda grabbed two events and Lahore Rowing Club one.

Results:

500m (individual): Maqbool Ali (Army) 1:21.8 sec; Qadeer (Navy); Naukar Hussain (PRC).

2000m (individual): Sulman (Wapda) 7:26.06 sec; Haider Rasool (PRC), Naveed Ahmad (PRA).

2000m relay: Nasir, Sabir, Sajjad, Gulbahar (Army) 5:50.11 sec; Ayub, Muhammad Farooq, Adeel Sultan, Muhibullah (Navy); Ejaz, Nawaz, Rashid, Imran (Wapda).

1000m (lightweight): Zohaib (Wapda) 3:18.08 sec; Muzammil (Army); Atif Bajwa (PRA).

2000m (lightweight): Irfan Ali (Army) 6:45.1 sec; Qasim (Wapda); Atif Bajwa (PRA).

2000m (lightweight for pair): Aziz-Tariq (Army) 6:33.05 sec; Asim-Zaigham (Navy); Adeel-Raees (PRC).

500m (individual women): Nazia Butt (Army) 1:49.02 sec; Saba Gulnaz (Punjab); Amtul Rehman (Township R.C).

500m (individual juniors): Khizar Hayat (LRC) 1:34.8; Sh Mansoor Ahmed (Islamic Club); Atif Ayub (Gujranwala Club).
