FROM THE PAST PAGES OF DAWN: 1943: Seventy-five years ago: A clarion call

(EDITORIAL) The fear that the Muslims of India would be content with a lethargic attitude and merely wait upon events is belied by certain suggestions of Mr. Jinnah which find an echo in all quarters… The League rule would not be worth much respect if it proved to be a story of loyalist or senile contentment, and Mr. Jinnah in his speech has been careful to link the energy of the younger generation to progressive ideals that might take time to mature.

From correspondence we received and also from the lobby talk of the younger men, his declaration that political power should be employed for the achievement of social justice and the abolition of privilege, tribal notions and selfishness, has come as a clarion call. Recriminations over past follies have relevancy only to the extent of proving that it is the Congress that in the craze for Hindu domination under the second-hand cloak of democracy and pietism that has in the last twenty-five years stood in the way of a concordat. Muslim youth is not content to carry ugly memories on their back like some Old Man of the Sea. They want to shake it off and take their stride in the march of freedom.
