PESHAWAR, Jan 8: After the winter vacations the Chief Justice of the Peshawar High Court, Justice Sardar Muhammad Raza will serve for a single day here on Wednesday following which he will take oath as a judge of the Supreme Court.
The federal government has already issued a notification in this regard. The next senior judge of the high court Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan will take oath as the chief justice of the high court on Thursday.
Justice Raza is one of the four judges elevated to the Supreme Court by the President of Pakistan. Other three judges belong to Lahore High Court. A full court reference will be held on Wednesday at the high court to bid farewell to Justice Raza.
Justice Raza was appointed additional judge of the high court on Dec 14, 1993 and was appointed as permanent judge on May 30, 1995.
With his elevation the number of judges in the high court are 13, whereas the sanctioned strength of judges is 15. The retirement of Justice Shakirullah is due on Aug 17, 2009.
The lone female judge of the high court Justice Khalida has become the senior most judge after the chief justice. She will retire on Sept 24, 2011.
