Karachi dominate Sindh Games with hockey, football and squash golds

KARACHI: Karachi sportspersons including women continued their domination by picking up maximum number of medals to contribute their share towards retaining the overall trophy of the 17th Sindh Games at different venues on the penultimate day on Saturday.

At the Abdul Sattar Edhi Hoc­key Stadium, Karachi brushed aside Hyderabad by the tennis score of 6-1 to retain the hockey gold.

Waseem Aslam slammed four goals while Sibtain Raza added two to win top honours. Ahad scor­ed the consolation goal for the losers.

Waseem was also declared best player of the tournament.

Larkana grabbed the bronze by getting the better of Shaheed Benazirabad 3-0 in the playoff for third position,

Similarly, Karachi girls made their mark claiming football gold.

Karachi thrashed Hyderabad 8-0 to annex the gold while thrashing Hyderabad 8-0 in the completely one-sided fixture. The bronze went to Sukkur who gets the better of Shaheed Benazirabad by a solitary goal in the playoff.

The local players shone by completing a double picking up gold in the men’s and women’s netball events.

Kaachi inflicted 10-5 defeat on Hyderabad to clinch the men’s honours while Mirpurkhas got the bronze defeating Larkana 9-7 in keenly fought match.

In women’s contests, the Karachi girls followed suit imposing to 10-8 victory over Hyderabad in the keenly fought final. Mirpurkhas took home the bronze beating Shaheed Benazirabad 4-1.

Karachi players also excelled in sepaktakraw defeating Hyderabad 21-19, 21-19 to return with flying colours in the men’s team event,

Mirpurkhas won the bronze prevailing over Sukkur 21-13, 21-19.

Meanwhile, the less said the better about the lapses and shortcomings of the organisers of the Sindh Games.

Karachi swept the men’s and women’s team event squash gold at the Roshan Khan-Jahangir Khan squash Complex on Saturday.

Karachi chalked up a convincing 3-0 victory over Hyderabad to annex the men’s team gold. Sukkur took the bronze.

Following the footsteps of the men’s outfit, Karachi women’s also gave a 3-0 drubbing to Hyderabad to win the gold. The bronze went to Sukkur.

Squash legend Jahangir Khan graccd the two finals and gave away the prizes.

The four-day Games conclude on Sunday.
