Faculty housing plan launched

PESHAWAR, May 21: NWFP Governor Khalilur Rehman on Saturday inaugurated a Rs180 million faculty housing project at the University of Peshawar, which will be undertaken by the National Logistics Cell. Under the scheme, 58 four-bed houses for associate and assistant professors and 42 three-bed houses for lecturers of the university.

The governor said the quality of faculty was most important for a university. He said universities must focus on quality of education.

NLC chief Maj-Gen Khalid Zaheer said the first phase of the project would be completed in 18 months. He said 100 more houses would be constructed in the second phase.

He said the NLC had also been entrusted the construction of an administration block in the Kabul University in Afghanistan.

CIVIL SERVANTS: Speaking as the chief guest at the graduation ceremony of 38th advance course in public sector management at the National Institute of Public Administration, the governor said the government had been striving for bringing reforms in civil services.

He said major initiatives had been taken in this regard recently by establishing a civil service reform unit and promulgating the National School of Public Policy Ordinance.

According to a handout, the governor said civil servants must be accountable and professionally ready to cope with emerging challenges and situation.

He gave certificates to 25 officials who had graduated.

Establishment Secretary Syed Tariq Ali Bukhari one of the major aspects of the training programmes in the civil service was to change the environment under which a change in attitude would develop.
