KARACHI, May 21: The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, has said the initiative taken by the city government for starting the mass transit plan will prove historic for the city. He said an MoU had been signed for the construction of the first corridor from Sohrab Goth to Tower. Work on feasibility report in this regard was near completion.

He was speaking as the chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Noor Masjid Model Park in North Nazimabad.

Mr Niamat said roads and flyovers constructed in Karachi were stable, and steps taken for infrastructure improvement including construction of roads would prove lasting.

In the past, he said, roads used to suffer damages soon after their construction. But, the roads constructed by the present government were in accordance with the internationally recognised ASHTO standard, and despite two rains, these roads had suffered no damage.

The nazim said the city government during its three-year term had completed three flyovers out of which Shaikh Abdul Qadir Jilani and Shah Faisal Colony flyovers had already been opened for traffic while the Shahrah-i-Quaideen flyover would be opened next month.

District Officer Parks Liaquat Ali informed that 11 model parks had been completed in Karachi.—APP
