LAHORE, May 18:Eleven teams will participate in the first national women’s football championship to be held at Islamabad in August this year. A spokesman for the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) announced on Wednesday.
The competitions will be held on round robin league basis. Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, Balochistan, Northern Areas, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Islamabad, Higher Education Commission, Pakistan Education Board, Punjab University and Divisional Public School will field their teams.
The spokesman said that 35 players would be picked from the national championships to form the national women team.
However, the PFF is yet to announce a women’s wing to deal with the affairs of this section and moreover neither an association nor any department has yet formed its women team for the national event.
FIFA has already allowed the PFF to use 10 per cent of its annual grant of $250,000 on women’s football.
