100 shops gutted

LANDI KOTAL (Khyber Agency), May 18: More than 100 shops were destroyed wen a fire engulfed a market in Bara area on Tuesday night. Hundreds of chickens were burnt alive as the fire spread to adjoining poultry shops. The cause of the fire could not be known.

The fire broke out at night and soon engulfed many shops of old auto parts, tyres and smuggled petrol and diesel. Some of the shop owners believe that the fire was caused by leakage in petrol canisters .

The local administration had to call eight fire tenders from Peshawar to control the fire.Volunteers of Bara peace committee also took part in the operation. The fire was brought under control after mid-night.
