Roads near stadium will remain closed for PSL final

KARACHI: Three major thoroughfares — University Road, Sir Shah Mohammad Suleman Road and Stadium Road — will remain closed for regular traffic when the final of the Pakistan Super League will be played in the city on Sunday.

More than 25,000 people are expected to arrive for the final which will be played at the National Stadium.

At a media briefing at the DIG East office regarding traffic and security arrangements for the final, Traffic DIG Imran Yaqoob Minhas said the roads from Nipa to Islamia College [University Road], Karsaz to Hasan Square [Shah Suleman Road] and Dalmia to New Town [Stadium Road] will remain closed for regular traffic.

Spectators advised to carry CNICs

“People will not be allowed to take their vehicles close to the stadium. Those who have tickets can park their vehicles at KMC Sports Complex on Kashmir Road, at a football ground near Dalmia and at an empty plot adjacent to the Federal Urdu University.

“From there, 200 shuttle buses will transport spectators to the stadium,” he added.

The DIG said around 1,600 traffic personnel will be deployed on the occasion who will start closing the roads at around 11am on Sunday.

“Regular traffic will not be restored until late Sunday night,” he added.

DIG East Zulfiqar Larik said Pakistan Rangers Sindh will take care of National Stadium’s security while some 8,500 policemen will be performing duties around the stadium.

“It is requested that the fans should carry their CNICs, cooperate with the security staff and do not get into mischief of any kind. They can however carry their mobile phones,” said Mr Larik.
