Police party attacked by outlaws

HARIPUR, May 16: Members of a criminal gang shot and injured three policemen in a bid to free their two handcuffed accomplices near village Lalo Gali, Ladar Mang union council, some 60 km from here on Saturday evening. Sources said that the attackers managed to escape along with their two arrested accomplices. The condition of one of the injured policemen was serious.

The sources said that Gandaf police post received information that a boat operator had overpowered two persons of the Gandaf village while stealing spares of his boat.

When the police party comprising an ASI and two constables, after having arrested the alleged thieves, Shabir and Haider Zaman, was heading towards the police post by a motorboat via Tarbela Lake, a group of armed men opened fire, injuring the boat operator and three policemen.

Those who sustained bullet wounds were identified as ASI Abdul Razaq, constables Shahid Mehmood and Abdul Qadus, and the boat operator Mohammad Pervez.

Constable Shahid Mehmood was later referred to Ayub Medical Complex in a critical condition while the other injured persons were admitted to DHQ hospital Haripur.

DSP headquarter Shah Nazar Khan when contacted confirmed the incident and said that raids were being conducted for the arrest of accused.

HRCP: The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan has formed a 14-member district core group of volunteers for Haripur on Sunday.
