LAHORE, May 15: The Punjab government is considering a proposal seeking a ban on rent-a-motorbike business. Sources said the government had taken notice of increasing crime in the city in which rented motorbikes were used. “We recently smashed a gang which committed 26 robberies on rented bikes,” said a police official.

Sources said a majority of rent-a-motorbike owners had got tampered with registration of their vehicles with the connivance of the department concerned to avoid police action. Traffic police sources said the practice of purchasing registration books of stolen or off-the-road bikes was also in vogue to tamper with chassis numbers of stolen vehicles.
