Govt committed to improving girls education: Jhagra

SWABI: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said on Friday that the government was committed to improving girls education.

He was addressing a function at the conclusion of an international training on ‘developing strategic leadership in higher education’ held at the Women University Swabi (WUS) here.

The training was organised by WUS and the University of Oxford, UK, and attended by vice-chancellors of various universities, academia and officials of the British varsity.

Mr Jhagra said success of any nation was linked to the pursuit of contemporary education and knowledge, adding there was urgent need to utilise all available resources and the potential of youth in that regard. Numerous measures have been taken to make maximum use of the available resources through comprehensive policy so that we could have an effective and concrete impact, materialising the dream of a prosperous future, he said.

The governor said without result-oriented research it was difficult to achieve the desired objectives in various fields, and urged academia to maintain high moral and professional standards, enhance professional knowledge and skills and to follow the ethics to serve the humanity and achieve dream of a prosperous Pakistan. The governor lauded the WUS efforts for organising the world class training.

On the occasion, Prof Khanzadi Fatima Khattak, the WUS vice-chancellor, said beside routine academic and research activities, the varsity had set up certain priorities to inculcate moral and ethical values among the graduates. She said developing strategic leadership, introducing mandatory social services for students, establishing international linkages, motivating the faculty towards research, developing university research fund, launching endowment fund, establishing social innovation and starting community development projects were other measures the varsity had taken.

LIQUOR SEIZED: The Chota Lahor police arrested two smugglers and recovered 24 bottles of liquor from them on Friday.

DSP Chota Lahor Iftikhar Khan said the police stopped a car during routine check on Swabi-Jehangira road and recovered 24 bottles of liquor from it.

The police arrested Sudais Khan and Javid Khan and registered an FIR against them.In a related development, police arrested two people and recovered from their car two kilogrammes of charas.

They were identified as Saddam Hussain and Sakhawat Hussain.
