LAHORE, May 12: Pakistan’s tennis star, Aisamul Haq left on Thursday for Uzbekistan to take part in ITF Challenger being played there later this week. A hectic tennis-activity awaits for Aisam as he plays altogether five back-to-back tournaments in as many weeks, taking part in three Challengers and one ATP tournament besides appearing in the qualifying rounds of the prestigious Wimbledon tournament,

World no 215, is in top form after two major achievements of his tennis career, scooping all the three golds in the tennis championship of the first Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia last month and helping Pakistan to move to the Davis Cup World Group after beating Chinese Taipie 4-1 in a home Group I tie.

“I will be going through vigorous grinding by taking part in five tournaments and the task is not easy because international tennis demands prime fitness and performance”, he declared before his departure to Tashkent.

From Uzbekistan, Aisam will be flying to Italy to take part in the ATP Challenger being played in the last week of May then going to England for a similar assignment to be held in London in the first week of June. Aisam will then feature in ATP Queens tournament in the second week of June in London, finally trying his luck in the qualifying rounds of the Wimbledon in the third week of June.

“I am very confident to perform well in these tournaments because of my present level of game and fitness and hopefully everything will go well as per my planning”, said Aisam.

Aisam said playing non-stop tennis in the coming weeks will put him under pressure because there was no break in between and he has to remain fit in order to achieve set targets.—APP
