European investors call on Maqbool

LAHORE, May 12: A 13-member delegation of European investors and German and Swiss industrialists of Pakistani origin called on Governor Khalid Maqbool at the Governor’s House here on Thursday. Lauding the interest of expatriates and European investors in the economic progress of Pakistan, he said technical and vocational education institutes were producing a large number of qualified workers and the universities had introduced advanced educational disciplines and industrial research facilities in accordance with the requirements of global economy.

Swiss investor Dictor Lenhardt said Pakistani mangoes were in great demand in Europe and he wanted to promote contacts between European investors and private sector companies of Pakistan in food processing sector through the chamber of commerce and industry.

Swiss industrialist Reiner Firk and investors of Pakistani origin Anjuam Jaura, Khawar Rafiq, Najib Cheema and Zeeshan Ahmad said Switzerland was importing garments worth $31 million from Pakistan and exporting textile machinery and dyeing chemicals worth $332 million to it every year. “The trade imbalance is required to be reduced by increasing exports from Pakistan.”

Prospects of joint ventures for preparing equipment used for controlling unwanted bleeding during orthopaedic operations by freezing human organs using cryo-surgery were also reviewed during the meeting.
