Former JSQM activist’s cousin ‘picked up’

BADIN: A primary school teacher was allegedly whisked away by a police team accompanying some men in civvies in Mohammad Khan Jarwar village, some 70 kilometres from here, on Friday.

The teacher, Ubaidullah Jarwar, happened to be a cousin of Rafaqat Jarwar, a former activist of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) who was allegedly whisked away in a similar manner a day earlier.

Rafaqat’s brother, Naseerullah, speaking to local journalists said Ubaidullah was his cousin.

Ubaidullah’s family members claimed that uniformed and plainclothes law enforcers riding several vehicles including police mobiles entered the village and whisked him away without sharing with them the charges against him.

Badin SSP Abdul Qayyum Pitafi and other police officers who had denied having any knowledge of Rafaqat’s detention or arrest maintained the same version in the case of Ubaidullah when local reporters sought their comment.

Protest demonstrations by nationalist and political activists were held in Badin, Tando Bago, Talhar, Matli and some other towns on Friday against the second such incident within the last two days.
