Nadra opens CNIC registration at 20 post offices

ISLAMABAD: The National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) is set to open registration counters at 200 post offices in rural areas to help people submit their applications for a Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).An agreement to this effect was signed on Thursday by Nadra officials and the Pakistan Post. Federal Minister for Postal Services Maulana Amir Zaman, Nadra director general Nisar Mir and Pakistan Post chairperson Rubina Tayyab were present on the occasion.

A spokesperson for Nadra said that the facility would gradually be extended to all post offices. He added that the step was taken after a successful turnout at 10 post offices where similar counters were opened last year.

In addition to the issuance of CNIC, he said, other Nadra facilities would also be available at these 200 post offices.

The purpose, he explained, was to make national registration accessible to people living in rural and far-flung areas. He added that Nadra and Pakistan Post will explore designating another 200 post offices with such facilities.

Nadra facilities will be available at post offices in Khairpur, Hyderabad, Rahim Yar Khan, Kallar Syedan, Dera Ismail Khan, Batkhela, Kuchlak, Mastung, Garhi Dupatta and Muzaffarabad.
