SANGHAR, May 11: A 50 feet wide breach occurred in the Nara Canal at RD-367, Dadyo Pattan, near Khipro, on Tuesday and was plugged by villagers on the self-help basis on Wednesday. The leakage was spotted in the right bank of the Nara Canal at the Mumtaz Mallah village by people who immediately informed the taluka nazim and others.
Announcements were made from loudspeakers of the mosques as a result of which hundreds of people from Khipro and nearby villages rushed to the spot.
By the time the people reached at the site, the breach had widened up to 50 feet.
The breach was plugged by using gunny bags, bamboos and tractors after four hours’ hectic efforts. The water level in the canal was also lowered.
The director of the Nara Canal Area Water Board, Ghulam Mustafa Dahri, executive engineer Gulzar Shah and other irrigation officials also reached the spot to supervise the work.
