PESHAWAR, May 11: NWFP Governor Khalil-ur-Rehman has directed vice-chancellors of all public sector universities in the province to make the disciplinary committees functional and take action against elements disrupting the academic atmosphere. The governor presided over a special meeting of the vice-chancellors of all public-sector universities at the Governor’s House on Wednesday. He directed them not to allow any sort of politically-oriented students unionism and such political activities in their respective educational institutions.
The respective disciplinary committees should be fully activated and action taken according to the prevailing law against those found responsible in creating disturbance, the governor said. He assured his fullest support to the administrations of the educational institutions in this connection.
He asked the managements of the universities not to succumb to any sort of pressure in the efforts to provide a peaceful academic atmosphere to the students.
He said that the principles of merit in each and every affair of the educational institutions should be strictly followed.
The governor said that the universities should simplify their day to day working process.
He said that all administrative operations should be ensured under a single roof rather than making students run from pillar to post in dealing with their academic affairs.
He stressed the need for research-oriented quality education at the universities.
He said that the administration should give importance to faculty development, and added that they must promote people of vision and knowledge having a brilliant track record.
However, he also agreed to a point that the quality of education imparted to students at the college level was direly needed to be focused upon for attaining the desired results at the university level as well.
