DERA GHAZI KHAN, May 10: Teachers held a hunger strike camp in front of the office of the deputy education officer here on Tuesday to protest against the delay in fulfilment of their demands. Representatives of the Punjab Teachers Union, the Government Schools Senior Staff Association, the Punjab Association of Subject Specialists, the SES Teachers Association, the English Teachers Association, the Punjab Educators Association and the City Schools Association took part in the hunger strike.
According to the charter of demands, the government should announce a special package for teachers, restore their pension and commutation, enforce time scale for promotion, stop recruitments on a contract basis, pay full pension and gratuity to the relatives of those died during service, increase house rent and conveyance allowance, reserve quota for teachers’ sons in the institutions, and settle the matters of the Bahbood Fund.
A large number of teachers from Layyah, Muzaffargarh, Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan will take part in the protest rally to be held in Islamabad on May 20.
