Maryam Nawaz criticises opposition, judiciary

GUJRANWALA: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz has criticised the opposition and the judiciary and claimed the masses will elect her father again in this year’s general elections with a majority despite being victimised.

Speaking at a social media convention here on Friday, Maryam said Nawaz was still popular among people who would vote him and his party nominees, and reject “jokers”.

Former president retired Gen Pervez Musharraf toppled her father’s elected government and exiled him for 10 years after detaining and punishing him and his party leaders. But the dictator had himself fled from the country now.

She alleged that opposition parties and certain plotters had started hatching conspiracies ahead of the general elections.

The judiciary was charging PML-N leaders with contempt, but how many more would be sentenced, she questioned.

She asked why the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chief had been spared despite being charged with the same offences as her father and other leaders.

She claimed that Gujranwala was a fort of the PML-N and its residents would elect their party nominees with a majority in the elections.

State minister Marriyum Aurangzaib and other leaders also spoke on the occasion and urged the workers to motivate people to strengthen the party.

Earlier, party workers welcomed Maryam when she reached the city and showered her with rose petals.
