KARACHI: Karachi University beat Iqra University by 106 runs to become the champions in the HEC Zone ‘G’ Inter-Varsity Boys Cricket Tournament 2017-18 at the IBA Karachi cricket ground on Tuesday.

Karachi University won the toss and decided to bat first, scoring 273 runs in the stipulated 40 overs. In reply, the Iqra University team were bowled out for 167.

Shiraz Hussain was named man-of-the-match for his all-round show for the KU after he bagged five wickets and scored 38 runs.

Moeid Sultan, Director Finance IBA Karachi, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes and the trophies. Gohar Raza, Manager Students Center & Sports Facilities, was the chief organiser.

IBA Karachi hosted the tournaments from Jan 19-26 in which 15 leading university and college teams participated including Karachi University, Sir Syed University, NED University, Habib University, Indus University, Greenwich University, Hamdard University, IBA Karachi, SZABIST, ILMA University, IOBM, Benazir University, Iqra University, PAF- KIET and PIMSAT.

The matches were played at five venues namely Naya Nazimabad Cricket Ground, Rashid Latif Academy Gulberg, TMC Ground Gulberg, Asghar Ali Shah Cricket Ground and IBA Cricket Ground.

Waleed Azam of Iqra University was declared the best bowler for capturing 12 wickets in the tournament while Hassan Mehmood also of Iqra University bagged the best batsman award for scoring 380 runs in the tournament.
