PESHAWAR, May 9: The Workers Ittehad of the Pakistan Muslim League on Monday expressed concern over the attitude of the party’s central leadership towards the Frontier province and warned that the party would suffer defeat in the upcoming local bodies polls if intra-party differences were not removed.
At a meeting with Arbab Ghulam Haider in the chair, the PML central command was asked to visit the NWFP as soon as possible to resolve the differences between the local leaders of the party.
It was decided that if the central leadership failed to visit the province soon, then a new cabinet would be installed by the party members.
CONTRACTORS: The NWFP Government Contractors Association and the All Tribal Contractors Association on Monday demanded replacement of the scheduled rates with a system based on market prices.
Speaking at a press conference, leaders of the two associations said the contractors in the NWFP and the Federally Administered Tribal Areas were dealt with under an agreement of 1921. “The Punjab government has changed this colonial system recently,” they said.
They claimed that the NWFP and Fata were the only places where the rates of construction material for contractors were not increased or decreased in accordance with the market prices.
They said the main reason of non-completion of most of the schemes in the province and Fata was the existing system of rates.
