Young golfer Ahmed Baig wins Qatar Open

KARACHI: Ahmed Baig became only the second golfer from Pakistan to win an international amateur tournament when he won the Qatar Open on Saturday, according to information received here.

In the 54-hole tournament at the Doha Golf Club, Ahmed shot rounds of 73, 70 and 70 for a three-day aggregate of three under-par 213.He was tied with Joshua White, but claimed the title because his rival is a professional.

And in the process, he followed Ali Hai as the second international amateur golf tournament winner. Ali won the Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship back in 2011.

Among other prominent Pakistani performers from the five-member team including manager Zahid Arbab, Taimoor Khan finished seventh (219) while Saqib Tufail was 23rd (233) and Zohaib Asif was 26th (235).
