LAHORE, May 8: Brian D. Hunt, political officer of the US embassy, and Brian Heath, principal officer of the US consulate in Lahore, called on PML-N leader Inamullah Khan Niazi and assured him that their country wanted a strong democratic system in Pakistan. According to a press release, Mr Niazi informed them about the political situation in Pakistan. He said as long governments victimized their opponents and denied them proper atmosphere in which they could play their role, the system or such an attitude could not be called democratic.
Niazi, a former MNA, told the US officials that there was a leadership gap in Pakistan and the prevailing chaos would not come to an end unless Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto were allowed to return home.
He also called for fresh elections and supremacy of the Constitution.
The PML-N leader said there were no job opportunities in the country and poverty-stricken people were committing suicides. The performance of parliament could be gauged by the simple fact that so far the house had failed to discuss people’s problems.
