KARACHI, May 8: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan on Saturday night inaugurated Al-Hudda — the first women’s library established in Nazimabad Union Council No. 11, Liaquatabad Town. Addressing at the inauguration ceremony, he said that the role of women councillors in development of Karachi was praiseworthy. He said that city councillors had initiated various uplift schemes in their respective areas from their development funds. He pointed out a women library complex was under construction in Gulshan-i-Iqbal.
Niamatullah Khan said that the city government had announced Rs42 billion budget with no new tax. He claimed that the continuous increase in the budget was made possible due to principles of honesty, accountability and transparency. In this regard, he quoted the examples of Shah Faisal Flyover and tendering process and maintained that million of rupees were saved by the city government. He said that his team had tried to introduce the culture of honesty and hard work in the city.
He said that work was being done on priority basis to end the shortage of water. He said that a deal had already been inked for a desalination plant with a US company and talks were being held with two other companies. He also referred to the contract with an Austrian firm for treatment of sewerage water, while the city government was considering the offers of other companies for three more plants.
The nazim said that he would take part in the local bodies’ elections, as Karachiites wanted him to do so. He said that due to his health he had been unwilling to contest the polls, but the citizens had insisted him to take part in the coming elections.
Abid Illyas, Gohar Islam, Rehana Afroz, Rakhshinda, Sameea Sajjid, Haji Abdul Qadir and others were also present. The city nazim on the occasion planted a sapling and gifted a copy of the Holy Qur’aan to the library.
Calligraphy show: City Nazim Niamatullah Khan inaugurated the solo calligraphy exhibition of Fareed Durrani at the National Museum.
The calligraphy was based on Surah Yaseen, besides historic copies of Sahih Bukhari, Qasseeda Burda and Seerat were also put on display in the museum in connection with the celebrations of Eid Millad-un-Nabi (PBUH).
Speaking on the occasion, the city nazim said, “Besides loving the personality of Holy Prophet (PUBH), we should also love his mission. By this way, we could again find our lost status in the world.”
He said that millions of Muslims were praying with wet eyes by holding the Gillaf of Khana-i-Kaaba and jallies of the Roza-i-Rasool (PUBH) to get rescue from current atrocity the Ummah was facing. However, these prayers were not being answered because Muslims had failed to fulfil the prerequisite of the prayers, he added.
He stressed that to achieve the successes here and hereafter one should love the mission of the Holy Prophet (PBUH).
