SAHIWAL, May 6: Wapda employees on Friday observed a five-hour strike and suspended the power supply to protest registration of a case against the deputy manager (operation), the SDO and five other employees. Similarly, Mepco employees of Chichawatni, Arifwala and Pakpattan divisions also observed a two-hour strike to express solidarity with their colleagues in Sahiwal division. They also suspended supply for two hours.
According to reports, a Mepco team headed by city division SDO Tariq Memon went to the residence of Kalimullah Khan advocate at Civil Lines Road for non-payment of bills. However, the advocate moved the court alleging that the Mepco team had not only removed his metre but also resorted to violence on him. The court ordered registration of a case against the team.
Carrying out court’s order, the City police registered the case against Mepco employees.
Meanwhile, SDO Tariq Memon approached LHC Multan bench which ordered registration of a case against defaulter and his son for taking law into their hands.
However, the police did not register a case against the lawyer and his son. — Correspondent
