KARACHI: Master plan for industrial areas

KARACHI, May 6: The city government is preparing a master plan in collaboration with the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) to improve infrastructure facilities in the city’s industrial areas. The City Nazim, Niamatullah Khan, said this at a dinner hosted by the Landhi Association of Trade and Industry (LATI) on Thursday.

He said industrial development boards had been constituted at four industrial areas for effective coordination between concerned departments and for resolving problems.

He opined that a master plan would help in improving the infrastructure of industrial areas. This would help provide a better environment to investors especially foreign investors in these areas.

Mr Niamat said the city government was also focussing on improving problems of traffic and pollution in industrial areas.

He invited industrialists to set up citizen community boards in order to avail 80 per cent financial assistance from the city government.

He instructed the EDO Enterprise, Raeesuddin Paracha, to promote liaison between the EDO Community Department and trade associations so that awareness about citizen community boards could be created among industrialists and citizens.

The nazim said that an Australian company was setting up a sewerage treatment plant to provide treated water to factories, and an initial agreement in this regard between the city government and the company had been signed. While more such plants were being planned.

He observed that after the setting up of such plants, the potable water, being given to factories, would be used for drinking purpose.—APP/PPI
