Chinese delegation visits university

PESHAWAR, May 3: Chinese academicians from the Wuhan University have shown interest in establishing a Chinese language centre at the University of Peshawar. A 10-member delegation of academicians, who visited University of Peshawar on Tuesday, said that a programme to link universities of the two countries should be taken up to cement their relations.

The delegation, led by Dr Liu Litang, principal of the Literature School of Wuhan University, called on the university’s Vice Chancellor Mumtaz Gul. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Liu Litang said that Pakistan and China had deep-rooted friendly relations. He informed the vice chancellor that the Wuhan University wanted to establish linkage programmes with the University of Peshawar, particularly in bilateral exchange of faculty members and students, said a press release issued here on Tuesday.

The VC said that friendship between China and Pakistan would be strengthened by people to people contact.

Such interactions help to understand each other. He stressed the need of English and Urdu renderings of Chinese classic literature.

Mr Gul welcomed the proposals of the delegation and said the University of Peshawar would welcome the linkage programme. He briefed the delegation about the university and its different programmes. Later head of delegation presented books to the VC. The delegation also visited various departments and centres of the university.

VISIT OF INDIAN CRICKET PLAYERS: The Cricket Team of Delhi (India) visited the University of Peshawar here on Tuesday. The team was led by Sunil Dev, President of Delhi Cricket Association. The visit was part of a programme organised by the university’s sports directorate.

Talking to the team members, the VC said that academicians, students, sportsmen and actors are best ambassadors of their countries and their mutual visits should be supported.

He informed the Indian players that the university was giving due importance to sports activities which was evident from the fact that Peshawar University had got second position in recently held all Pakistan Universities Games.

Sunil Dev said that people of Peshawar showed them great love and affection which they would remember for years. He gave invitation to the university cricket team for a visit to Delhi.

Later the vice chancellor presented souvenirs to the team members. The team also visited the historic Islamia College, Peshawar.
