BAHAWALPUR, May 2: District and sessions judge has been moved for judicial probe into death of an LHV in the custody of Ahmedpur East police.
DPO Arif Nawaz, while talking to Dawn on Monday, said that the judge has been requested to nominate a member of judiciary to conduct an inquiry into the death of Ms Tasleem Bibi, an LHV who died while she was allegedly confined by the police in a room of Ahmedpur East police station on April 28.
He said the police officials concerned would produce evidence before the inquiry officer after his nomination. Tasleem Bibi, along with a man, Ashiq, was held by the police for their alleged involvement in ‘immoral activities’.
The DPO, admitting that there was negligence on part of the police officials who locked the woman in the police station, said any further action would be initiated after the submission of an inquiry report by the additional SP.
The report of the medical examiner concerning the postmortem of the LHV’s body was still awaited.
CORPS COMMANDER: Lt Gen Imtiaz Hussain has assumed the command of Bahawalpur Corp.
Previously, Gen Hussain was posted at GHQ, Rawalpindi. He replaced Lt Gen Syed Parwez Shahid, who got retired, said an ISPR release.
UPLIFT SCHEMES: District Council, at its meeting held here under Syed Owais Gardezi, approved 35 uplift schemes costing about Rs25 million.
These schemes include five schemes of road construction, 20 of drainage and 10 schemes of village electrification.
The council also approved Rs100,000 grant for police constable Muhammad Afzal who was killed by dacoits near Uch Sharif during the last month.
The council through various resolutions demanded electricity connection for the sewerage of Quaid Colony, supply of canal water for cotton crop cultivation and posting of a doctor at Yazman health centre.
