NAB suggests five names for prosecutor general

ISLAMABAD: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has recommended five names for the vacant post of the bureau’s prosecutor general (PG).

Four of the five candidates — Nasir Saeed Sheikh, Fasihul Mulk, Syed Asghar Haider and Mudassar Khalid Abbasi — are retired judges of high courts. Former deputy attorney general Shah Khawar is the fifth nominee.

Sources told Dawn on Monday that NAB had sent a summary to President Mamnoon Hussain through the ministry of law and justice. NAB has yet to receive a response from the presidency.

Former PG Waqar Qadeer Dar left office on Nov 23 after completing his three-year tenure.

The sources claimed that the government had conveyed to NAB that it could not consider Nasir Saeed Sheikh and Fasihul Mulk as they were said to be overage. However, there is no such bar on age under National Accountability Ordinance, 1999.
