Construction starts on new FJWU campus

RAWALPINDI: Construction work on a second campus of the Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU) on Chakri Road was started on Thursday. The campus will be built at the cost of Rs193 million.

FJWU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Samina Amin Qadir laid the foundation stone at the ground breaking ceremony at which all the deans, faculty members and the registrar were present.

Director Planning and Development Ghulam Mujtaba Kayani gave a briefing about the planning and construction of the academic blocks and girls’ hostel. He said the campus will be constructed on 133 kanals and will have two academic blocks, a hostel for girls with the capacity of 300 beds and an administration block which are expected to be completed in 18 months.

Dr Qadir appreciated the efforts of Mr Kayani and all consultants and said she hoped everything will be done according to the vision and mission. She said the completion of the campus will help the university accommodate more women so they can get a higher education.

She said the university is also working on improving the condition of its current campus and that new buses will be procured as well for the new campus.
