LAHORE, Aug 28: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi has criticized the opposition parties for opposing the president and the LFO.

Speaking at a news conference after his return from his visit to Norway and England here, the chief minister said at present the political leaders should ponder as to how they could fulfil their responsibility of strengthening the democratic system.

So far as President Gen Pervez Musharraf was concerned he had played his role regarding the restoration of democracy by timely holding the elections, he said.

The chief minister said he was committed to the president whom he fully supported. He was the person who restored democracy which was the common goal of all political parties and for which they were struggling.

He said now when the democracy had been restored, opposition parties were raising several objections about it. People were least bothered about the LFO and now the opposition parties were criticizing the president who had held the elections and allowed the MMA to form government in the NWFP and share power in Balochistan.

The chief minister said the president always kept Pakistan dear and was supporting all projects which were related to the future of the country.

Pervaiz Elahi said he too related the interests of the provinces to the interest of the country. The problems of Sindh were the problems of the country, he said.

Terming his tour as successful, Pervaiz Elahi said basically he had gone to Norway and England to attend Independence Day functions held by Pakistani community there.

The chief minister said the Norwegian prime minister and Mayor of Oslo informed him about the contribution of Pakistani community in their country’s development and political life.

He said the Pakistani community was also eager to contribute in the prosperity of their country. They were imbibed with the spirit of serving the country which was rare at home, he said.

Similarly, the Pakistanis living in England too wanted to serve the country, showing interest in investing here in projects like the development of New Murree.
