LAHORE: Punjab Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana says the government is focusing on quality education to improve international ranking of universities in the province.

Addressing the 126th convocation of the Punjab University at Faisal Auditorium on Monday, he said: “There is a difference between education and knowledge and improvement in the quality of education will increase respect for our degrees.”

PU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir, Lahore Mayor Mubashar Javed, Controller Examinations Prof Dr Shahid Munir, Registrar Dr Muhammad Khalid Khan, faculties deans, heads of various departments, students and their parents were present on the occasion.

The governor said all institutions should work within their constitutional limits and toppling the political governments was not a service to the country.

He advised the female students not to waste their talent by staying at home rather they should join practical life. He said the federal and provincial governments had given appropriate representation to women in institutions.

Prof Dr Zafar Mueen Nasir said the administration had taken several initiatives in limited time to bring PU among top universities of the world by promoting research culture.

He said the administration had activated Faculty of Health Sciences and students would get admission there very soon.

He said during the last 10 months, the administration had organised one academic council, two syndicate, nine selection board and 10 advanced studies and research board meetings. He said the university also organised nine national and international conferences, six national workshops, 21 seminars and several symposiums. He said the university had signed 24 memorandums of understanding to promote external linkages.

Later, 275 master’s, 176 undergraduate degrees and 148 medals were distributed among the students. As many as 73 medals were distributed among undergraduate students while 75 medals were awarded to master’s students.
