LAHORE, Aug 27: The Oct 12 polls were held under the Election Order 2002 on a directive of the Supreme Court and not under the LFO as was being stated by Gen Pervez Musharraf.

This was stated by Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal chairman Maulana Shah Ahmad Noorani on Wednesday.

“Gen Musharraf is deceiving the people by saying that the general election were held under the Legal Framework Order.

If it was the case then why the National Assembly speaker had given the ruling in the first session of the house that the members were not taking oath under the LFO, he questioned.

Answering a question, he said the government and not the MMA was responsible for the problems people were facing. The government was engaged in solving the constitutional crisis instead of ameliorating the lot of the masses.

He believed that economic policies of the army government were checking progress and prosperity of the people and these policies would be changed only when the LFO would be withdrawn.

He said the religious alliance could not give up its stance for making talks on the LFO a success.
