SAHIWAL: The Pakistan Diploma Engineers’ Federation (PDEF), Sahiwal chapter, celebrated the award of grade 14 and 16 to sub-engineers by the Punjab government at a meeting, presided over by PDEF general secretary Qazi Muhammad Arif.
He said the continuous struggle of the PDEF and its allied organisation won good scales for sub-engineers in all provinces of Pakistan.
He demanded that sub-engineers be inducted in grade 16 directly and those working in grade 16 be promoted to grade 17, while those in grade 17 be given 25 percent quota in executive engineer posts.
“Presently, sub-engineers are given only a two percent quota in grade 17 posts,” Mr Qazi added.
He told Dawn during the regime of chief minister Haider Wain (1990-1993), the Punjab government had agreed to allocate a 28 percent quota for sub-engineers in grade 17 and 33 percent in grade 16 but the promise was never realised and sub-engineers were inducted in grade 11.
He demanded traveling allowance and a Rs10,000 fuel in every salary. Mr Arif also demanded the regularisation of 2,000 sub-engineers working on contract in different department.
