SARGODHA, Aug 24: The Punjab government has finalized a plan for the improvement of irrigation system by ensuring brick pavement of channels, canals and distributaries with the collaboration of the World Bank under the National Drainage Programme.
This was stated by Provincial Irrigation and Power Minister Chaudhry Aamer Sultan Cheema while talking to local farmers association here on Sunday.
He said the World Bank would provide 95 per cent funds while the remaining funds would be given by farmers’ organizations. Besides, he said that Rs61 million would be spent on the desiltation of Faqarian and Sillanwali drains.
He said 10,000 channels would be paved within the next four years under the direction of the Punjab CM, enabling the farmers at tail-end to get sufficient water for irrigation. — Correspondent
