Transgender person found dead

PESHAWAR: The police on Saturday claimed that unidentified persons had killed a transgender community member and dumped her body on the outskirts of the Peshawar city.

A Mathra police station official told Dawn that they recovered body of an about 28-year-old transgender individual from the Ashiqabad locality of Darmangi neighbourhood located on the Warsak Road.

The official said the individual was stabbed multiple times, which led to her death. However, the official said she was killed somewhere else but her body was dumped in the locality. He said condition of the body suggested that she was killed some days back.

The police official said so far they had not been able to establish the identity of the individual.

Taimur Kamal, an official for Pakhtunkhwa Civil Society Network NGO which documents incidents of violence against transgender community, told Dawn that a total of 53 transgender persons had been killed across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa since 2015.

He said during the current year about 300 incidents of violence against the community had been reported.
