‘SHRC may act against rights violations’

MITHI: Sindh Human Rights Commission (SHRC) chairperson retired Justice Majida Rizvi has warned that the commission will not hesitate to take notice of human rights violations on its own and recommend severe action against the violators.

She said while chairing a meeting at the deputy commissioner’s office here on Thursday that early marriage was a serious issue which was contributing to unabated deaths of infants and expecting women in Thar and directed SSP to ensure registration of FIRs against the damaging practice.

She expressed deep concern over poor primary healthcare facilities in remote villages and directed DHO and medical superintendents of hospitals to focus attention on health and nutrition issues of the region.

She noted that incidents of police excesses were not being reported to the commission and warned it would not be tolerated in future.
