Unfit Amir named in T20 squad for Sri Lanka series

LAHORE: Unfit pacer Mohammad Amir was named in the T20 squad for the Sri Lanka series on Tuesday while all-rounders Mohammad Nawaz, Amir Yamin and young fast bowler Usman Khan Shinwari were also recalled as the national selectors announced a 16-member Pakistan squad for the three matches, two scheduled to be played in the UAE and one in Lahore. The T20 series starts on Oct 26.

Amir, who has been struggling with a shin injury since the second Test against Sri Lanka in Dubai, has been retained in the team subject to his fitness before the start of the T20 series. Sarfraz Ahmed will lead the team.

AFP adds: Sri Lanka Cricket on Monday confirmed their team will tour Lahore in a ‘fly in, fly out’ arrangement for just one day — eight years after their team bus was attacked by gunmen in the same city.

Pakistan successfully hosted the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) in Lahore earlier this year and last month’s three-match Twenty20 series against a World XI revived international cricket in the country.

Squad: Sarfraz Ahmed (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Ahmed Shehzad, Babar Azam, Shoaib Malik, Mohammad Hafeez, Imad Wasim, Shadab Khan, Mohammad Nawaz, Fahim Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Aamir Yamin, Mohammad Amir (subject to fitness clearance), Rumman Raees, Usman Shinwari, Umar Amin.
