Sixth dengue case confirmed in Hassanabdal

TAXILA: Another dengue case of the current season was confirmed in Hassanabdal on Saturday.

Health department officials said Hifza Sultan, 21, a resident of Mehmoodabad locality, was tested positive for the mosquito-borne dengue hemorrhagic fever.

This is the sixth dengue case reported in the area this year.

Last week, 22-year-old Mohammad Shakeel of Khawjanagar also tested positive for the dengue fever.

Besides, a large number of suspected patients were being treated in private hospitals exposing the tall claims of the health authorities about preventive measures to avert the possible breakout of the disease.

Hafiz Anwar Shamim, the incharge of the anti-dengue surveillance team in Hassanabdal, confirmed the sixth case and said the five cases had been reported from the urban areas.

He said after the confirmation of the sixth case a health team led by Deputy District Health Officer Dr Saeed Ahmed and Assistant Commissioner Jannat Hussain visited the house of the patient and supervised the precautionary steps.

He said the health team had declared an emergency in Mehmoodabad where the patient was living.

He said dengue larva was recovered from the water tank of the patient’s house. Subsequently, a team drained out all the stored water from the building.

He said fogging and indoor residual spraying were also conducted in the area.

On September 14 last year, an 18-year-old girl from the Ismailia village in the Union Council Bhallar Jogi, Hassanabdal, died of dengue at a government hospital.
