HYDERABAD, Aug 22: Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Central Labour Union chairman has said employees are suffering from stress in the wake of the anti-workers ordinances which do not guarantee job security.
The labour leader, Abdul Latif Nizamani, was talking at a labourers meeting held at the Darbar Hall in Gari Khata here on Wednesday to mark the Safety Day.
He said employees of different departments were being retrenched without any reason, causing unrest among them.
Mr Nizamani said the Safety Day was observed in different parts of the country where seminars were organized to create awareness among workers about safety measures. He asked the workers not to work without safety gears.
He said due attention should be paid to the welfare of employees so that they could work with commitment.
Safety director Mohibullah Raza said so far 12 workers had died and 24 had injured in Sindh while performing their duties.
He observed that workers in Tando Allahyar were not adopting safety measures which he said was a violation of Wapda laws.
He stressed the need for replacing the existing power supply system with the modern technology as it would help contain accidents.
HEPATITIS: At least 60 policemen are suffering from hepatitis B and C in the Hyderabad district and the figure may increase after blood screening of 200 policemen, who carry such symptoms, is conducted.
This was said by DPO A. D. Khwaja while talking to businessmen at the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Wednesday.
Urging the businessmen to donate funds, the DPO said Rs3 million was required for blood screening of 5,000 policemen of the district.
He said the vaccination drive of policemen was expected to be launched this month.
He said after the vaccination, screening of 25 policemen would be conducted to determine effects of vaccines.
HCCI president Abdul Razaq Memon assured the DPO that the chamber would contribute in the police fund.
