Mushk is in the air

LAHORE: An excellent theatre production by OLOMOPOLO, Mushk (fragrance), attracted a large audience at Alhamra on Friday.

Well before the start of the play, the parking area of Alhamra was fully packed with vehicles while audience were waiting to enter the hall. Inside the hall, the right ambiance was in place: classical music, excellent lighting on the stage and the tremendous set. This all set in the elements of the play. Artificial rain during a scene was something too pleasant to see; how the director had set up a furnished drawing room and an elegant sliding balcony, was just superb.

The play would be also staged on Saturday and Sunday. Acting by Sania Saeed and Nimra Bucha was remarkably good. Their chemistry on the stage and their interaction being Soyphiya and Zoya just swept away the audience as they successfully injected a great dose of emotions in their roles.

Director Kanwal Khoosat said that making Mushk into a theatre had been a two-year journey; work on the script went on for two years.

“I feel that the story had ripened enough and as cheesy as it sounds. I believe that the universe just pushed it to make it happen. Up until six months back, we were still not sure when OLOMOPOLO Media would be able to do this play, and then suddenly things just started to fall into place, thanks to the involvement of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Netherlands,” she said.

The power of the stardom of two most experienced actresses on stage brought forth a unique experience for the audience who enjoyed every situation and detail of the play. The play is written by Raabia Qadir and Seemal Numan.

The play revolves around the story of Sophiya and Zoya, Sophiya played by Nimra Bucha and Zoya played by Sania Saeed. The story is knitted around a journalist and a writer.
