ISLAMABAD, Aug 21: Defending champion Hamidul Haq thrashed Manoj Rana of Nepal 6-0, 6-0 to move into the semifinals of over-40 men’s singles category in the Asian Veterans Open Tennis Championship on Thursday.
Pakistan’s most-capped Davis Cupper Hamid was in so sparkling a form that he overpowered his quarterfinal opponent without dropping a game and will now take on no.3 seed Nikornkeait of Thailand in the semi finals on Saturday.
The former Pakistan Davis Cup captain, Hamidul Haq, will play the semifinals of over-35 category against Susheep Jitjarat of the home country on Friday.
Hamid, in his quarterfinal tie in the over-35 category, made light of the No.3 seed, Amphonpinij Setsompong of Thailand, 6-0, 6-3.
In other quarter finals of the same category, Susheep Jitjarat beat fellow Thai player, the no.6 seed Bodidat Tepchan, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 while the no.4 seed Krit Yongkasikij ousted eighth seed Pae-Cha Moolvichit, both Thais, 7-5, 6-2.
In the same class, the no.2 seed Patthamawor got walkover against Benja Chotchotchuang and will now clash against Krit Yongkasikij in the semifinals.—APP
