CHITRAL, Jan 5: The Tehsil Nazim of Chitral, Amir Khan Mir, has appreciated the efforts of Chitral Conservation Strategy (CCS) for tailoring a strategy for the durable and sustainable development of the district.

On the second day of the session of the Tehsil Council, the Project Manager of CCS (IUCN), Dr Inayatullah Faizi, gave a briefing to the council highlighting the aims and objectives of the CCS and its plans for the future.

He told the house that the devolution plan announced by the government would have multiple affects on the development paradigm. The CCS document shall be reviewed in the context of the devolution plan to determine the optimum interface with the newly-formed district government.

Upon finalization, the CCS would be debated, finalized, printed and launched. Adopting a two-track approach, he added, the proposal on the implementation of CCS in a select geographical area shall be finalized and resources be mobilized.

The project manager further told the house that once the district governments were made functional, a comprehensive need-based capacity-development programme shall be developed for both the elected representatives and the government functionaries to improve their performance towards sustainable development in Chitral in the context of CCS.

He also responded to the queries raised by the members of the council regarding the CCS.

On Wednesday, the Nazim called upon all members of the council to hold sincere discussion on any issue tabled in the house so that all matters are resolved effectively, our Bureau adds.

The meeting discussed the alternative means of communication from Chitral to other districts of the country in case Lowari Topa road is closed for traffic in the winter.

The meeting also discussed the problems of taxi stand and vegetable market.

The council, appreciating the officer commanding of Chitral Scouts for appointments on merit, hoped that this act would strengthen the public confidence in the government policies.
