Constable dies while chasing suspects

OKARA, Aug 19: A police constable was killed and his colleague injured when their motorcycle rolled over after hitting a milestone near Tabrooq on the GT Road while they were chasing some suspects on Monday night.

Reports said Munir Ahmad, who was posted at Yousafwala police station at Cantonment, detected some suspects going by a motorcycle-rickshaw. He, along with his colleague Muhammad Younis, started chasing the suspects by a motorcycle (SPK-6174) when it hit a milestone and rolled over on the main road.

Munir died instantly while the pillion rider suffered grievous injuries. He was admitted to hospital in critical condition.

PHONE SERVICE: The subscribers of the main cellular phone companies have been facing a great deal of inconvenience for the past 10 days due to erratic functioning.

Officials at these three companies told this correspondent on Tuesday that the system was being upgraded to meet the growing demands of the subscribers.

However, some sources claimed that these phone companies had given connections beyond their capacity.

NO-CONFIDENCE: As many as 16 members of the Renala Khurd tehsil council moved a no-confidence motion against Nazim Chaudhry Waheeduddin.

Tehsil Naib Nazim Syed Amir Hassan Kirmani has summoned the meeting for voting on Aug 22 at 10am at the local tehsil municipal administration office.
