PESHAWAR, Aug 16: A legal notice has been served on the SHO of Chamkani police station on behalf of an Afghan refugee.
The SHO, Said Wahab, has been accused of torturing the refugee, Amanullah, and implicating him in different cases.
The notice was served on the SHO by an advocate of the High Court, Hameedullah Bangash, asking him to give an explanation regarding the said charges within 48 hours, otherwise separate legal proceedings would be initiated against him.
Mr Amanullah has also sent a copy of the notice to the Amnesty International, requesting it to monitor his case through its regional office.
In the legal notice, Mr Bangash stated that proceedings had been initiated against the SHO by the district and sessions judge after Mr Amaanullah lodged a complaint against the SHO for allegedly keeping him in illegal confinement, torturing him and extorting an amount of Rs35,000 from him.
The medical report confirmed as many as 11 injury marks on the body of his client.
The notice stated that to pressurize Mr Amanullah the SHO arrested his father, Gula Jan, and involved him in two bogus cases under section 13 Arms Ordinance in order to make him withdraw the case.
The case was brought into notice more than a month ago when Mr Amanullah was kept in illegal detention by officials of Chamkani police station and a habeas corpus petition was filed by his father. When he was produced before the Peshawar district and sessions judge it was found out that he had been severely tortured.
