Government websites defaced by Indian hackers: reports

Websites of multiple departments of the Government of Pakistan, including the Establishment Division, the law ministry, Ministry of Inter Provincial Cooperation, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Information Technology were hacked on Monday, local news outlets reported.

Sources in the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) informed Indian news outlet The Hindu that it was unable to identify the group behind the hacking but confirmed that it was a highly coordinated attack by Indian hackers.

In place of the homepages of the compromised websites, users were shown a black screen with "Hacked by LulzSec India" and "Happy Independence Day - 15 August" written over them. Screenshots of the defaced websites were posted by multiple users on social media.

According to reports, the websites remained defaced for quite some time. They have since been rendered inaccessible.

Local digital news media outlet ProPakistani reported that a single group is responsible for all the hacking attacks.
