Police submit report on ‘revenge rape’ to SC

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab Police on Tuesday submitted to the Supreme Court a report on the alleged rape of a teenage girl in Muzaffarabad area of Multan district.

On July 27, Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar had taken notice of the incident and instructed the inspector-general of Punjab to submit a report on the matter to the court.

The notice was taken after media reports said a teenage girl was allegedly raped on the orders of a panchayat (village council) comprising 20 members following an alleged rape committed by the girl’s brother.

In his report, the City Police Officer (CPO) concerned has said that three FIRs have been registered and all the 29 nominated suspects arrested. The investigation will be completed and challans will be submitted in a court of law within seven days, the CPO has added.
