LANDI KOTAL, Aug 12: Bara political administration on Tuesday closed down 70 shops of Mirankhel tribesmen in the Shalobar region after they failed to meet the deadline for recovery of an eye specialist, Dr Masoodul Haq.
The administration on Saturday last had issued a deadline of 48 hours to the Shalobar tribe to help recover Dr Masood.
Dr Masood was kidnapped by unknown gunmen on July 20.
It is believed that he is in the custody of a proclaimed offender Fateh Khan, who was recently released on bail from Bara prison.
Mir Wali, elder brother of Fatah, a notorious criminal, is also in the custody of political administration and is locked in Jamrud jail. He had handed himself over to political authorities after an assurance was given by Bara MNA Maulana Khalilur Rehman that he would soon be released and all cases against him would be withdrawn.
Mr Wali is wanted by the Khyber Agency political administration and the Peshawar police in a number of cases.
The administration on Monday also arrested two Shalobar tribesmen, but later on one of them, a college student, was released.
The administration had earlier closed down 500 shops of Sipah tribesmen to force them to help recover a kidnapped custom official Amanullah and his friend Zakria. Both of them are still missing.
Some 40 protesting shopkeepers, after remaining in prison for about three weeks, were also released.
Frustrated by the Bara administration’s failure to trace the missing doctor and custom official, the provincial home department transferred Bara tehsildar Ghulam Habib.
Social and political circles had repeatedly flayed former tehsildar Ghulam Habib for his inability to control the deteriorating law and order situation in Bara.
